Shamokin First Presbyterian Church is seeking a part time spiritual leader to lead worship and provide other pastoral care to the congregation. Qualifications include a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, a willingness to lead and grow church membership, and be an active member of our community. Applicants are not required to be a member of the Presbyterian Church, but will need a letter of good standing from their denominational headquarters. Time commitment and compensation are negotiable. The City of Shamokin is in the Eastern end of Northumberland County. Shamokin has a state of the art High School and Luzerne Community College available in the city limits (it is also located near Bucknell, Susquehanna, and Bloomsburg Universities), a small 80 bed hospital serves the needs of the local and surrounding communities. We have an excellent nursery, and active Session, Board of Deacons, and a Pep Club, and a church attendance of around 35 week.
We are looking for a spiritual leader who is willing to work on a part time basis of 20-25 hours a week. The compensation package is negotiable.
Our Church is looking for a Spiritual Leader who will:
1. Make pastoral visitation a high priority. We have 54 active members and 62 inactive members.
2. Help us as a congregation establish an active Sunday school, and try to help us reach new members.
3. Lead Sunday morning worship and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
4. Lead us as a congregation in special services like Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday.
5. Provide basic “Pastoral Care” to the members of the Church family, including but not limited to hospital visitation, crisis, and emergency support,
6. Contact new and prospective members,
7. Provide home communion to members who can not attend regular worship.
8. Provide spiritual leadership to the Session in setting goals for the ministry and mission of the Church to its members and community.
9. Celebrate the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism.
10. Participate in the ministry of the Presbytery of Northumberland.
If our prospective candidate for our spiritual leader is not a member of the Presbyterian Church USA we will need the following: A letter of good standing will be required from the governing body from which the prospective individual is associated, a certificate of Ordination as an Elder or Minister, and a statement of faith.
